Abstract
An enzyme-sensing electrode system for serum cholinesterase was prepared by coupling a pH-sensing electrode to a thin polymer membrane with a low-molecular-weightcutoff. The electrode system utilized two thin-layered solutions to form a micro electrochemical cell. One layer contained the serum; the other contained acetylcholine substrate which had been stabilized to annul the non-enzymatic decay of the substrate by using a high-molecular-weight buffer. An assay can be performed in 1.5–4.5 min. The precision and accuracy of the technique is comparable with those obtained by spectrophotometric techniques.
