Abstract Asymmetric hydrolysis of alkyl (methyl and ethyl) (±)-erythro-p-nitrophenylserinates by α-chymotrypsin afforded optically active esters in optical purities above 95%, but alkyl (±)-threo-p-nitrophenylserinates were not hydrolyzed.
