Abstract

The fungal enzyme Coprinus cinereus peroxidase (CIP) can be used for the removal of toxic phenols from water. After treating aqueous solutions of phenols with CIP and H 2O 2 the phenols polymerized and precipitated. The decrease in phenol concentration was investigated for 10 different phenols. At neutral pH, the investigated phenols were in general removed with high efficiency.
