Means to attenuate this inflammatory response at the implantsite are of significant interest and currently include strategiesbased on surface morphology, chemical modification, or drugdelivery. This response is particularly evident at the site ofstent deployment, where the overproliferation of smoothmuscle cells can lead to restenosis—a re-narrowing of thelumen.
