Abstract

The results are presented of an extensive research programme on corrosion fatigue crack propagation in eutectoid cold drawn. steels (prestressing steels) in sea water. Tests have been performed, both at the free corrosion potential and by coupling the specimen to zinc, using different waveforms, frequencies, and stress ratio (R = &σmin/σmax) values. A parametric model is proposed which can explain the influence of these factors on the corrosion fatigue behaviour of prestressing steels in sea water.
