Abstract

Waste Management (WM) and disposal are now considered one of the most important environmental management problems in the global aviation industry. This must be addressed through more sustainable environmental practices to conserve natural resources and protect global ecosystems. The authors review and synthesize peer-reviewed articles from reputed journals and the aviation industry reports with the goal of identifying existing contributions. This study seeks to take an important step in identifying WM problems in the aviation sector in India and recommends strategies to reduce environmental impacts in the aviation sector. The literature review identifies airport waste sources, different types of waste generated in the aviation sector, barriers to WM, airport WM methods, and reveals gaps in aviation WM and avoiding CO2 emissions to protect sustainable ecosystems. This conclusion represents a solution to the green alternative to aviation and provides an overview for future research.
