Abstract

The textile industry creates significant environment effects throughout the life cycle of textile products. This chapter explains strategic approaches for promoting environmentally sustainable textile product consumption and production in the textile industry. More specifically, five phases in environmental sustainability (material, manufacturing, retail, consumption, and disposal phase) are focused on in a discussion. Key concepts (e.g., corporate social responsibility, green supply chain management, and eco-design) for environmentally sustainable business practices to be considered are suggested in this chapter. It is important that all stakeholders, including consumers, manufacturers, supply chain, and retailers, in the textile industry take alternatives to promote environmental protection in the production and consumption of textile products.
