Abstract

The environmental segment of Supply Chain Management is currently in a state of turmoil, with each electronics manufacturer having its own set of material requirements that often differ with those of other manufacturers. Due to the large variation in data formats and requirements, as well as the current lack of information from the raw material sources that go into a product, much of the data generated is of suspect quality. This paper describes some of the activities taking place within industry groups such as EICTA (the European Information & Communication Technology Industry Association), EIA (the Electronic Industries Alliance) and IMDS (the International Material Data System) to address these issues and how Motorola's program tries to tie them together.
