Abstract

More and more consumers are becoming aware of environmental problems. As a result governments have initiated programs for sustainable development to improve the well being of society. The hotel sector is an important industry for implementing such programs. The aim of this case study was to review the development of 'green hotels' in the People's Republic of China. Basic principles for the operation of such hotels are discussed including obstacles and problems. Lastly, some suggestions and measures are provided which may be useful for hotel managers and governments.
