Environmental Implications and Origin of Microscopic Pseudoschizaea Thiergart and Frantz Ex R. Potonie emend. In Sediments

Abstract

Microscopic Pseudoschizaea shells have been found in 23% of samples studied in routine palynological analyses of various Quaternary sediment and soil types. They were also found in 2.9% of samples of Lower Creta- ceous marine and terrestrial deposits from the South African coastal region. This investigation shows that Pseu- doschizaea is a common form in the recent environment of relatively warm areas of the world where moisture is avail-
