Abstract

A model for environmental ergonomics is presented for defining the man-machine-environment relationship. Presented in the form of a cube, the three axes comprise, respectively, the physical factors in the environment, the organismic variables which are those factors required to define the occupant of that environment, and the adaptive factors which are the variables that interact between the occupant and its environment. Dimensions within these variables are discussed in terms of the constituents that must be defined when studying the effects of the environment on the dependent factors of physiology, behaviour and affectivity.
