Abstract

The present paper studies the effect of some environments (distilled water, salt water and dilute hydrochloric acid) on the tensile strength and fracture toughness of random glass fibre reinforced polyester (GRP). Consequently, a set of centre notched and unnotched specimens were immersed in various solutions for different periods of time. At each interval, a few specimens were taken out of these solutions and were tested under monotonic loading. The tensile strength and fracture toughness as a function of immersion time are presented.
