Abstract

Forests are the biggest source of Biodiversity reserves and play a vital role in maintaining the ecosystem. However, increasing anthropogenic activities are causing a serious threat to the survival of these forests. These anthropogenic activities are inclusive of various acts that are legally defined as offenses. Such offenses have become a major ground for the degradation of forests that is ultimately going to affect the sustenance of the human species as a whole. This paper briefly attempts to study the nature of such offenses in the Kamrup District of Assam that is a Biodiversity Hotspot of India to find out the improvements required to be made in the legal framework.
