Abstract. Banjarmasin has an unique community life with an icon of a thousand rivers. People are accustomed to living by rivers such as for bathing, for trade and for transportation. Program Pengembangan Kota Hijau (P2KH) was initiated in 2013 by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR). Banjarmasin is one of the cities that has implemented 8 green city attributes: Green Planning, Green Building, Green Open Space, Green Community, Green Water, Green Energy, Green Waste, and Green Transportation. This study is a qualitative research and uses an explanative type. Data collection methods used semi-structured interviews, documentation and literature study. The informants in this study were the Banjarmasin Environmental Service, the Green Community Forum, and the Environmental Ambassador. Data analysis in the form of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions / verification. This research found the results that currently the city of Banjarmasin is quite clean which is marked by the achievement of the Adipura award. All of the eight attributes of a green city have been applied, but the Green Open Space has not yet 30% reached. River cleanliness also needs further attention. Banjarmasin Environmental Service, the Green Community Forum, and environmental ambassadors carried out environmental campaigns through face to face, online media and print media.
