Abstract
Developmental projects in Japan are classified into : coast type of nationalregional level and inland type of regionallocal level. Uncareful deforestation and engineering works are major cause of environmental disruption in inland type project which destroys nature and culture of less developed villages. A comprehensive environmental assessment system for a local inland type project is developed and is applied to a few cases with successes.
