Abstract

This presentation reviews literature concerning the environmentally significant photoreactions of several chlorinated aromatic pollutants (CAPs), namely, polychlorobenzenes (PCBzs) as well as CAPs derived therefrom, viz., α‐substituted p‐chlorotoluenes, polychlorophenols (PCPs), polychlorodiphenyl ethers (PCDPEs), and polychlorodibenzo‐p‐dioxins at > 290 nm. In the context of photochemistry of PCBzs, the discussions include photoreductive dechlorination, photoisomerization, photoformation of polychlorobiphenyls (PCBs) and many other photoprocesses. This article also describes newly developed photoincorporating reactions of PCBzs with some humic monomers.
