Abstract

AbstractFive New England states currently have in place a Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) using tradable Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to increase the share of renewables in the electricity mix. Regional RPS demand now totals more than 18,000 gigawatt‐hours and is set to grow to more than 28,000 gigawatt‐hours by 2020. As such, RPS‐supported renewable energy is a sizable and growing portion of New England's electricity market.
