Abstract

The purpose of the present investigation is to elucidate the following facts and problems of Tertiary Forest vegetation in Europe: 1. The Paleotropical Geoflora: Evolution centre in Europe or floral belt – origin and culmination of development of paleo-(boreo)tropical vegetation – decay of paleo(boreo)tropical vegetation – relics of paleo(boreo)tropical vegetation in Europe – European Rain- and Evergreen Broad-leaved Forests (Paratropical Rainforests, Subtropical Rain- and Evergreen Broad- leaved Forests, Temperate Evergreen Broad-leaved Forests), Mixed Laurel-Coniferous Forests (Laurel-Taxodiaceae Forests, Pine-Laurel Forests, Bog-Laurel Forests), and poor Nipa Mangrove. 2. The arctotertiary Geoflora: First advances of arctotertiary flora – Oligo-Miocene evolution of arctotertiary flora – changes of European flora in Upper Miocene, and the appearance of recent species – Pliocene figuration of areas, and European endemism – European Deciduous Broad-leaved Forests (Mixed Mesophytic Forests: Warm temperate Rainforests, Oak-Hornbeam-Chestnut Forests, Beech-Oak-Hornbeam Forests), Alluvial and Riverplain Forests, and Deciduous Swamp Forests.
