Abstract
The solubility of benzoic acid in distilled, deionized water was determined over a limited temperature range. The entropy of transfer of molecular benzoic acid from a pure liquid to an aqueous solution was calculated. Data also were analyzed in terms of the hypothetical partial molal entropy of transfer of molecular benzoic acid from an ideal or a regular solution to an aqueous solution. Interpretation of the data indicates that solutesolvent interactions result in a reduction of the number of independent molecules relative to an ideal or a regular solution.
