Abstract

Abstract It is shown that the generalized first and second laws of thermodynamics are sufficient conditions for Bekenstein's entropy upper bound to be valid for a black hole in equilibrium with self-gravitating radiation. A lower bound for the Euclidean action of the system is obtained.
