Abstract

This article is based on the author's experience as a midwife tutor working in Zanzibar, East Africa, on a Save the Children Fund project between 1988 and 1990. After an overview of the health services and training course (Figure 1) there are two accounts written by students while working in the village of Kidoti during their community allocation. These are used to illustrate the rich and varied experience available to students there.
