Abstract

A high level of entrepreneurial activity is regarded as a sign of a healthy economy. Owning a business, however, typically generates high levels of stress and may be cause for concerns for entrepreneurs themselves. Current research provides only limited understanding regarding how stressors typically associated with owning a small business may impact entrepreneurs’ health and wellbeing, and the coping strategies available to business owner- managers. More research is also needed that locates where/when interventions might be most successful. This symposium brings together four empirical papers that [1] explore factors relevant to coping mechanisms of entrepreneurs, offering ideas for designing better interventions, and [2] investigate moderators and mediators of the stressor-strain relationships in entrepreneurial contexts.
