Abstract
O artigo trata dos processos de subjetivação neoliberal na seara da punição e criminalização. Reconstruímos, primeiramente, o argumento de M. Foucault referente às mutações promovidas pelo neoliberalismo no âmbito da punição e de sua modalidade de subjetivação correlata. Argumentamos que seu prognóstico a respeito do destino das instituições normalizadoras, como a prisão, mostrou-se, em parte, historicamente equivocado. Passamos, então, a explorar o argumento central do artigo, a saber, que, nas últimas três décadas, as tecnologias políticas e as formas de subjetivação na esfera da punição foram marcadas por um apoio recíproco entre mecanismos neoliberais e outros disciplinares e soberanos. Para tal, realizamos uma discussão teórico-analítica amparada em exemplos empíricos colhidos de polícias e tribunais de países como Estados Unidos e Brasil. Visamos a contribuir, a partir da sociologia da punição, com a discussão contemporânea a respeito da confluência entre neoliberalismo e autoritarismo.
