Abstract
This article analyzes the works of Joao Fernandes da Cunha and Walter Castro Gold to understand how to build a memory on the press of the city of Juazeiro, north of Bahia. From the inter-relationship between history, memory and forgetting, these works can be considered a place of memory, which favored a narrative anchored in tradition, notions of belonging and identity. They also become document-monuments that influenced the production of a speech was on the press and should be problematized by researchers as sources subject to interpretation in search of traces of the action of the first communicators and their products-newspapers. 1 Doutoranda do Programa de Pos-Graduacao em Comunicacao, da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro.
