Abstract

A system of four mutually coupled van der Pol oscillators with time delay in the coupling paths is analyzed. The intrinsic (i.e., uncoupled) frequencies of these oscillators are given by ωok=1+Δω(k−1), k=1,2,3,4, where k denotes four oscillators and Δω is the intrinsic frequency gradient. In this paper, it is shown that the coupling time delay, coupling factor, and gradient of intrinsic frequencies of such a system radically affect the number, frequency, amplitudes, and phases of entrained oscillations.
