Abstract

Insects Display many behaviors that are difficult to describe verbally or to illustrate by still or motion photography. However, understanding of these behaviors, which include molting, pupation, feeding, predation, parasitism, and locomotion, is essential for the entomology student (Borror et al. 1981, Daly et al. 1978). Many of these activities cannot be demonstrated in classroom laboratories with live specimens due to insect circadian rhythms, time limitations, and a general lack of performance and cooperation by insect subjects. Seasonal constraints can also limit the availability of live insect specimens. These problems are not limited to entomology and occur in other zoological disciplines.
