Abstract

New calorimetric enthalpies of vaporization were determined for eight isomers of pentanol and hexanol with an accuracy of 0.3 percent. The results were combined with literature values for aliphatic C1-C4 alcohols, and some qualitative conclusions were drawn regarding the variations in enthalpies of vaporization and in closely related properties with chain length, degree of branching, and OH-group position.
