Abstract

Calorimetric studies are reported of hydrogen bonding between quinoline (Qu) and o-phenylphenol (OPP). The enthalpies of hydrogen-bonding of the acid and base components of a coal-derived asphaltene with OPP and Qu are also reported. The results provide strong evidence that the acid and base components of asphaltene function substantially as hydrogen donor and acceptor, respectively.
