Abstract
An indirect IgG enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) based on three different synthetic peptides with amino acid sequences from viral protein VP1 of enteroviruses was explored for the diagnosis of enteroviral infections. In a panel of acute and convalescent sera from 137 patients with culture confirmed infection with one of 17 different enterovirus serotypes, a combination of all three peptides, and the use of two serum dilutions, yielded significant titre rises of enterovirus specific IgG-antibodies in 73% of the patients. This broad-reactive peptide IgG ELISA is useful for serodiagnosis of enteroviral infections.
