Abstract

The enterobacteria isolated from the cerebrospinal fluid of 306 patients suspected of meningitis included 131 strains of Klebsiella, 122 of Serra/ia and 53 of Enterobacter. Klebsiella and Serratia strains were more frequently isolated from the spinal f1uid of children !ess than one year old while Enterobacter strains were isolated from o!der childreno Klebsiella and Serraria strains were resistant 10 a greater nurnber of antibiotics, particularly to those of the aminoglycoside group than Enterobacter strains.
