The purpose of writing this review on enteric coated effervescent microbead drug delivery system was to special focus on the principle mechanism of effervescent action to achieve pulsatile release. This study will be innovative and replacing many conventional drug delivery systems because of their various advantages. Effervescent pulsatile drug delivery system concept was applied to increase the GI residence of the dosage form having lag phase followed by a burst release. Diseases suitable for this type of dosage forms are peptic ulcer, Inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis etc. Enteric coated effervescent microbead drug delivery system shows excellent lag phase followed by burst release in small intestine which gives site-and time-specific release of drugs acting as per chronotherapy of diseases. Also the the rapeutic uses of the different modifications of the beads can be immense for the drugs which have low water solubility, short biological halflife, require organ specific targeting and are proteineous in nature.
