Abstract

The article analyzes food security as the most important component of the national security system for providing the country's population with food. According to the authors, national food security is the ability of the national food system to satisfy the scientifically based physiological needs for food of all social groups of the population as much as possible through its own production, provided that these groups are equal in consumption of a minimum sufficient in quantitative terms and a balanced assortment of food products that meets the accepted nutritional and quality standards. It is concluded that the Republic of Moldova, unlike the existing practice, should approach food security in line with generally accepted scientific and practical approaches: ensuring physical and economic access to quality food for all groups and categories of the population.
