Abstract

The exploratory research collected data from 120 students, aged 14 to 18 years, in two middle schools of the state network of the municipalities of José de Freitas and Campo Maior, both located in the northern region of the state of Piauí. The results presented in this work were collected through a questionnaire with objective questions related to the main difficulties faced by the students in the physics discipline. The main objective was to analyze students' conception of the teaching-learning process and discuss the reasons that led them to consider difficult physics discipline. The research reveals that 75.83% of students have some kind of difficulty in physics and that the two biggest difficulties are: solving the calculations and understanding the theory. This work showed that the percentage of students who have difficulties in the discipline is still great, since most of them have below average scores, even though the educational system has improved. The students point out that in order to improve teaching and learning, it isnecessary to invest in didactic laboratory, teacher training, current contents, methodologies and didactic resources.
