Abstract

The case described in this article is that of a 39-year-old man with a midline swelling of the maxillary mucobuccal fold which had recurred after surgical removal of granulation tissue from the area of the upper right central and lateral incisors. It then appeared, both clinically and radiographically, as a labially perforating nasopalatine duct cyst. On surgical investigation, it looked like a neuroma of the long sphenopalatine nerve, but histologic examination showed that it consisted of embryologic remnants of the nasopalatine duct and associated papilla palatina cartilage.
