Abstract

Peripheral venous catheters are the most commonly used vascular devices in hospitals. The ageing population and the increase in comorbidities makes their insertion more complex. A survey carried out in surgical units describes the factors contributing to failures. It is importantto improve the identification of patients with difficult venous access, to offer access to various techniques anddevices, as well as to the expertise of a specialised team.
