Abstract

French home visitation programs targeting postnatal depression are currently developing. In the CAPEDP project, home visitors with a background in psychology met with 222 women, from the third trimester of pregnancy until their children second birthday. It has been shown that (a) the CAPEDP intervention had no overall effect on postnatal depression 3 months after birth and (b) that the home visitors were challenged with socioeconomic issues in the families with whom they met. This research presents the results of a qualitative analysis of prenatal home visits case notes, comparing two groups of depressed vs. non-depressed pregnant women. The main objective was to identify how home visitors addressed postnatal depression in their intervention, while challenging adverse socioeconomic contexts.
