Abstract

The government of prepositions in modern Latvian literary language has strict norms depending on various factors: preposition, number, gender, meaning, etc. However, the system of preposition government is different and inconsistent in Kurzeme Livonic subdialects. Older sources of Latvian written language and Latvian grammar also point to an unstable government. Until now, in Latvian dialectology, researchers have repeatedly pointed out that the use of genitive preposition with the governed word in the accusative case can be called a traditional feature of Livonic dialect, but it is often impossible to determine a clear grammatical case because of the reduction of the vowel of last syllable, so sometimes the accusative and genitive forms are identical. The aim of the article is to consider and map the preposition uz, pie, pēc and no government in all Kurzeme subdialects of Livonic dialect, where the governed words are singular. The descriptive method and cartography method that describes and compares prepositions and their government are used in the article.
