Abstract

This study presents a novel wireless optical communication method based on an Optical Phased Array (OPA), where real-time communication is achieved by controlling the output of multiple channel beams via the phased array. The paper further provides an in-depth discussion of the calibration method for multi-beam scanning using the OPA. We have validated this approach using a 16 × 16 OPA, where eight-channel beams can scan any location within a certain angular range. This communication technique can effectively enhance the bandwidth of wireless optical communication and improve its problem-solving capacity. Utilizing the designed OPA, we demonstrate data transmission at 8 × 1Gbps within a free-space range of 50 cm. Through precise control of the OPA beam, high-quality eye diagrams are realized in all eight channels.
