Abstract

To improve the anti-welding ability of AgNi contact material, the Ag2WO4 was doped for the Ag-8 wt%Ni contact material. The electrical contact tests were performed at 36 V/25A for 5000 operations on an electrical testing system, and the welding and material transfer behaviors were studied. The results show that doped Ag2WO4 significantly decreases the welding frequency (115 times to 34 times) and welding force (max 0.49 N to 0.13 N) for the Ag-8 wt%Ni contact material, which is derived from the fine eroded morphology acted by Ag2WO4. Furthermore, doping Ag2WO4 increases the material transfer from anode to cathode, which can be attributed to the influence of Ag2WO4 on the plasma ion density, and the balance of metallic and gaseous arcs reflected from the arc power.
