Phillips Julien Phillips, a principal in the San Francisco office of McKinsey & Company, joined the firm in 1970. He is one of McKinsey's leading practitioners in organizational design and change. During the past few years Mr. Phillips has directed a great deal of work for a large, integrated oil company, a fast-growing engineering services company, and a pharmaceutical firm. He has done a variety of other organization effectiveness work in such varied industries as retailing, publishing, and banking. Mr. Phillips has written on organizational diagnosis and design, shaping organizational culture, human resource management, and the management of organizational change.
