Abstract

This two-part PhD thesis (by Eric O. Scott, Advisors: Kenneth A. De Jong and Sean Luke) investigates asynchronous steady-state evolutionary algorithms and evolutionary knowledge transfer, respectively, as ways to address challenges that can make it difficult to apply evolutionary algorithms (EAs) to computationally intensive applications.
