Abstract

Abstract The prosthetic tooth design is dictated by esthetics, function, ease to maintain oral hygiene, and patient comfort. Correct design is important for long-term success. An ovate pontic fulfills both esthetic and functional requirements. The convex design of this pontic mimics a tooth erupting from the gingiva. Also nowadays, patients avoid long, drawn-out dental treatment. The time span between extraction and healing after loss of tooth in the anterior esthetic zone can be esthetically and psychologically devastating for the patient. In such a situation, immediate tooth replacement with an ovate pontic on a provisional bridge is a good alternative. However, ovate pontic design has some disadvantages. The modified ovate pontic design was developed to circumvent the problems encountered with the ovate pontic. A report of three cases will be presented where the modified ovate pontic design was used for replacing upper anterior teeth.
