Abstract

The problem of a low level of education with the number of people who are still illiterate, unfavorable economic, and natural situations are the main factors in Madura that force women into real social action as a source of financial power for families by becoming female labours. To improve family welfare, they become the ones who play essential roles in both fields, domestic and public. Training and assistance programs for female labours in Madura are very much needed, especially for improving the competence and quality of self. English is considered one of the crucial things which are used as a medium to increase motivation and the right level of education for female labours in Madura. This study aims to determine the motivation of Madurese female labours to English as the language of instruction in several destination countries and to observe the English competence of female labours to support learning activities. This research is descriptive qualitative research which involves observations, interviews, and distribution of questionnaires that are used as a method for data collection. The results of the study are English plays as one of the important roles for female labours in Madura to increase communicative skills, enhance good education, and develop potential existence, and English learning modules assists them in exploring self-access learning method.
