Abstract

Lanthanide-doped up-conversion nanomaterials have great potential applications in solar cells, color displays, biomedical imaging. In this work, high-quality Yb3+/Er3+/Ce3+ co-doped YbxEr2−xTi2O7 thin films were fabricated by pulsed laser deposition. The morphology and up-conversion luminescence of YbxEr2−xTi2O7 thin films with different concentrations of Ce3+ ions were systematically studied. More than 3-fold enhancement of up-conversion emission was obtained via 7.5% Ce3+ ions doping, which may be attributed to cross-relaxation processes and a destruction of local crystal field. The enhancement mechanism of up-conversion emission was investigated in detail.
