Abstract

Neutron capture therapy (NCT) applied by means of an external neutron beam has been extensively studied in the last 3 decades. Another option for the neutron capture (NC) reaction, the enhancement of tumor dose by interstitial Californium-252 implant, has been proposed recently9. Most sigmoid dose response curves for neutron irradiation are very steep and therefore even a small (few %) enhancement of tumor dose may dramatically change the clinical outcome. The potential of boron-10 as a capture agent is very well known but new methods of selective delivery of other isotopes into tumor cells may make them useful in NCT.
