Abstract Revised calculations for the screening potential in dense plasmas from the polarization of relativistic degenerate electrons are carried out taking account of the long-range as well as the short-range ion-ion correlations. The computed results of the enhancement factor for the thermonuclear reaction rate are parameterized in analytic formulae applicable over the domain Γ ≤ 200, rs ≤ 0.1, and 1 ≤ Z ≤ 26, where Γ, rs, and Z refer to the Coulomb coupling constant of the ions, the dimensionless density parameter of the electrons, and the ionic charge number, respectively.
