Abstract

Measurements of the magnetic hysteresis in ultrathin Pd Ni films ( d ≲ 100 Å) show a marked increase of the perpendicular coercitive field after hydrogen absorption-desorption cycling; a squaring up of the magnetic hysteresis is observed at the same time. We attribute temtatively this effect to an irreversible change of the stress state of the film in relation with the film-substrate interaction.
