Abstract
Experimental and theoretical results are presented which indicate significant increases of surface-atom relative intensities in X-ray photoelectron spectra obtained at grazing X-ray incidence. For Au with C-containing overlayers, these effects are observed in the intensity ratios 1s/Au4f, Au4p 3 2 /Au4f, and Au4d/Au4f.
