Abstract

Ion beam-target interaction experiments were performed by using a two-dimensionally focused “plasma focus diode”. The proton energy losses in different targets were measured with an improved time-resolvable Thomsonparabola energy spectrometer. With the beam power density of ∼0.1 TW/cm2 at a beam energy of ∼1.5 MeV, enhanced energy deposition has been observed for aluminium targets 7 µm thick. Theoretical calculations show that the experimental data are in good agreement with those given by the simulation model based on free and bound electron stopping terms.
