Abstract

The performance of the power system quality is directly affecting by the voltage sag condition in the power system. Voltage sag is directly affecting on the sensitive-voltage loads, that leads to complete shutdown or generates a large inrush current, failure system, increasing the losses time in the industrial system due to trip at voltage sag and losses cost. The Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) is considered one of the optimal methods that are used with the power system for voltage control. The optimum design of the DVR with the control of Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) system by using PI controller design can improve the application of DVR to reduce the dynamic response time for mitigating the voltage sag in power system. This paper discusses the DVR control technique by PI controller with the series control module and shunt control module to enhance the power system quality. The proposed control technique can be done using single-phase compensation system or three phase compensation modules, depending on the required Sag condition. Also, this paper used MATLAB/Simulink software to as simulation tool for modeling the PI control module with the DVR for voltage control in power system. The results obtained from this paper shows the superiority of the proposed control technique in improving the power quality in sag periods.
